CRACKS…

 

The present is built on the past and often conceals it, smoothing over the difficult reality that was, telling an acceptable story. But there are cracks in the surface, something emerges and a confrontation with aspects of the reality below is inevitable, necessary and potentially refreshing. 

 

This was Berlin. And an area of Berlin that is full of inheritance, of stories stored in layers beneath the surface. A city of power and art, of danger and deprivation – in different ways in different chapters of its story

 

Light made lines in the ground, tracking where earlier borders, walls and other structures of the city had been situated, some of which are now the hidden base for new structures. Discovering the geography of the past to investigate the power hidden inside and sense the stories that are still down there, the better to understand the present.
